International Thespian Society
The Banff School has International Thespian Society and Junior Thespian Society chapters with more than 30% of our 6th-12th grade student population as active members. The Thespian Society, a division of the Educational Theatre Association, is an honor society for high school and middle school theatre students.
Purpose & Opportunities
The goals of our Thespian Society troupes are to:
1. Promote the art of theatre and life performance, both on our campus as well as at other schools and theatres within our community.
2. Enjoy live theatre performances together as a troupe.
3. Support fellow Thespian troupes at other schools through community service.
Membership is open to any student who has a love for theatre and has either had prior roles in theatre productions (educational amateur or professional) or is concurrently enrolled in the school's Theatre Production course.
A highlight of the Thespian Society are the annual festivals our theatre students attend together as a troupe. From a local one-day Thespian Conference in Houston for our middle school Thespian Society members to the four-day Texas State Thespian Festival in Dallas, TX for our high school theatre students, these festivals are filled with amazing, once-in-a-lifetime learning opportunities taught by industry professionals. Additionally, our high school students also have the option to participate in college auditions/interviews, compete for scholarships and participate in various theatre-based competitions with the winners being eligible to compete at the national festival each June.
