The Banff School Uniforms

The Banff School's uniform policy requires a neat, clean, and complete appearance at all times. Our private school uniform guidelines ask that overall appearance reflects on the school’s desire to express a serious attitude toward education.

A focus on learning, respect for others, and pride in the school are indicated and helped with the prescribed dress code. Any form of dress or hairstyle, including unnatural hair color, which is considered distracting or disruptive to the purpose or conduct of the school will not be permitted. Boys are not allowed to wear jewelry in piercings. Girls may wear jewelry only in piercings on the lower ear lobe. Students with ear piercing deemed excessive by the administration will be asked to remove them.

PLEASE NOTE: Temporary changes have been made to the uniform plan for the 2020-2021 school year. Please read this web page carefully.

Where to Purchase

  • Uniform items marked with an asterisk MUST either be purchased through our uniform supplier, Sue Mills or our Online Spirit Store.

  • All other clothing items may be purchased through Sue Mills or any clothing store of your choice.

  1. Students are allowed to purchase their shorts, skirts, skorts, pants and gym shorts from any clothing store (see specific descriptions in the Boys/Girls tab). The exception to this rule are any of the uniform articles that are plaid (skirts and jumpers) - these can only be purchased through Sue Mills.
  2. All uniform tops must have the Banff logo embroidered on them - and must be purchased from Sue Mills. Polo shirts or Oxford shirts purchased from other clothing stores are not allowed. The only allowed uniform tops consist of Banff logo short or long-sleeved polos in red/white/blue, Banff logo short or long-sleeved Oxford (button up the front) shirts in white and Middy Blouses in white (for PreK-3rd grade girls only).
  3. On days other than "Dress Uniform" days, students may wear any style of closed-toe shoes with backs, with the exception of sandals, work or military boots, Ugg-style footwear and Crocs-style footwear. Shoes should be laced, tied, buckled, or fastened as designed.
  4. All shirts must be tucked in at all times, slacks must be belted.
  5. Hats or caps of any kind or make are not worn during the school day.
  6. All skirts, shorts and gym shorts must be an appropriate length. Appropriate length is determined when the garment parallels the ends of the fingertips when the student’s arms are extended straight down at the side and the length is not greater than 6 inches from the floor when the student is kneeling. Additional length is acceptable.
  7. All articles of clothing usually removed during the school day should be labeled with student’s first and last names. Unclaimed articles of clothing left at school over the summer will be given to a charitable organization at the beginning of the next fall term.
  8. Students who are uncertain about uniform requirements should consult in advance with the office. Final determination of appropriate dress rests completely with the faculty and administration. If a student is not dressed appropriately for class or field trips, parents will be called and the student will be denied participation until the dress conforms.
