International Students

The Banff School is authorized to arrange I-20 status for International Students seeking an F1 visa for studying abroad. As a college preparatory school, we are ideally positioned to offer a first-class education to those international students wishing to continue on to a college or university here in the United States. International students are also invited to take summer courses from The Banff School online in their home countries in preparation for attending an American school in the future.

Admission to The Banff School is based on results of exams, previous school records and recommendations. No one factor is more important than another. We will carefully examine the complete file of each applicant and select students who will be able to succeed at Banff and contribute to the life of the school. No specific type of student is sought; each individual is considered for his or her accomplishments as well as potential. We seek diversity in the class and want students with different abilities and skills – academic, musical, artistic, athletic. We have an open admission policy, which welcomes applicants of any race, color, or creed. While the school is prepared to help a student adjust, our school cannot effectively handle a child with a serious problem.

Due to the unique nature of International Admissions and requirements set forth for F1 Visas, we ask that all International Students first contact our Admissions Office to schedule an in-person or Skype/Zoom interview prior to beginning an application. This interview will help assess the student's English proficiency and give our Administrative staff an opportunity to meet and discuss expectations with the family.

The following items are required as part of the Admissions process. These items will be uploaded as part of the application and should not be sent directly to the school via email.

Please Note: All foreign documents must be translated into English.

  1. Application fee paid in full (non-refundable)
  2. Official copies of the student’s transcript with seal - for at least the past two years.
  3. Two letters of recommendation - one math teacher, one English teacher.
  4. Wallet size photo of the student.
  5. Copy of birth certificate and passport.
  6. Immunization records.
  7. Signed Designated Guardian Agreement.
  8. Copy of bank statement showing evidence of ability to cover full cost of annual tuition, textbooks, uniforms and annual living expenses for one year.
  9. Signed Statement of Financial Responsibility

After receipt of all required documentation, the international student’s file is reviewed for acceptance or refusal, and a letter is issued to reflect the decision. Once accepted to The Banff School, the non-refundable Enrollment Fee is due to reserve the student’s spot in the school and have the student’s I-20 issued (the I-20 will not be issued until the Enrollment Fee has been paid).

Once a student has received I-20 documentation from the school, the next step will be for the student to pass his/her interview with U.S. Immigration officials. Once a student has passed the interview, The Banff School must be notified of the student’s immigration status. The student will have 30 days from this point to pay his/her non-refundable annual tuition balance in full to be fully enrolled at The Banff School and not have their I-20 canceled.

All payments are non-refundable.

If at any time during the academic calendar year a student requests to have his/her I-20 transferred to another school, a non-refundable $1500 “Transfer Out” fee will be assessed.

Students will need to purchase health insurance and submit proof of coverage before attending school.
