Winterim Courses
Our Banff School Winterim courses are an innovative curricular feature for students in our 6th-12th grades. Modeled after the college January term concept, Winterim is designed to increase learning and community service opportunities. Not only are students given specialty classes to choose from each year beyond the normal curriculum, but they also have the unique opportunity to participate in group community service and team-building projects each afternoon. Winterim truly means new opportunities and learning experiences for Banff students.
Learning Outside the Box
Mornings during Winterim are a time for Banff students to learn an art, skill or technique while attending a unique class taught by our faculty or community partner. Students choose from multiple course offerings and attend two classes each day. Past course offerings have included such exciting options as:
- Yoga
- How to Survive a Zombie Apocalypse (outdoor survival class)
- Classic Card Games & the Math Behind Them
- College Survival Skills
- World Religions Comparison
- The Art of Calligraphy
- Photoshop Skills
- U.S. Military History
- The History of Baseball
- Improving Vocabulary through Classic Board Games
- Faith and Feminism
Giving Back & Working Together
Winterim courses conclude with an afternoon of Community Service or Team Building. Students spend time at various Houston charities, nursing homes and other community service opportunities, working together to give back to our community. The time spent assisting in these service projects help to educate our students and encourages them to make a positive impact on those around them. Additionally, students participate in fun, exhilarating Team Building events such as complex Escape Room scenarios or an afternoon on a high ropes course at an area adventure park. Our Banff students come together, work together and give back - it's what Winterim is all about!
