Private School College Preparation

At Banff, the College process starts early. After students get their feet firmly planted in the routine of middle school life in 7th and 8th grade - which involves creating passionate learners, developing strong study skills, exploring different interests, and engaging in the life of the school community - they are ready for the next step toward college exploration. Our private school college preparation path prioritizes this important goal throughout your student's grade school years.

We begin our purposeful college prep work with 8th-grade students and their families when they are beginning to become developmentally able to think about college in a meaningful and tangible way. As students move up into high school, our teachers, administrators and dedicated college counselors help guide students and parents as they learn about a variety of schools, create a list of reasonable options, complete the application process, and select a collegiate program in which they can thrive. A great match is one in which the needs, abilities, and desires of a student are all met.

The Banff Difference is a personal one. Our college counselor is personally invested in the success of your student, not ONLY at Banff, but beyond. Our commitment to your child is long-term and the Banff School's College Counseling Program is intentionally designed to ensure that every student's next big step in life is made with support, guidance, and great care.

Some of the ways we help prepare our students:

Intensive Individual Counseling

Formal meetings starting in the sophomore year, one-on-one advising available to all Upper School students

Recommendation Letters

Carefully researched, and highly personalized counselor letter for each senior; meaningful letters from teachers who really get to know our students and are honored to write for them

Visits to College Campuses

When possible, we arrange for group visits to area college campuses as well as colleges in the cities we visit as part of our Experiential Education Trip program. Students get to see college life first-hand, meet with Admissions staff and ask questions about their personal journey to collegiate life.

Special Programs/Events

Parent meetings, financial aid information, alumni visits, practice SAT/ACT sessions, mock interviews, and more.
